A local NSM customer created a couple of jigs used to rest the locomotive engines on to service them. They were specially designed and engineered to support the weight of the locomotives. However since workers may have to go underneath the locomotives to service them, they wanted to make sure that the jigs can support the weight that they were designed for. So they asked us to put 50,000 lbs of certified weight onto each jig and let it sit for 30 minutes to ensure that the jigs would safely support 50,000 lbs each.
The jigs were delivered to our Dallas facility, and the load test was conducted in our parking lot area using certified test weights from 2 of our test trucks and a forklift to load and unload the weights. We documented the load testing and provided written documentation to the customer to show that the jigs passed the load test.
