Happy World Metrology Day 2026

Posted on May 20, 2026

Ever wonder how to certain your butcher is correctly weighing your steaks, or how GPS technology pins your location with such precision? World Metrology Day, celebrated annually on May 20, honors the essential science of measurement that keeps our world functioning. From ensuring the safety of our infrastructure to the precise dosing of medicine, metrology provides the reliability we often take for granted.

The universal metric system allows for a seamless global exchange of ideas; for instance, an architect trained in Sudan can design a structure in Mexico because our fundamental units are identical. This global standard dates back to May 20, 1875, with the signing of the Metre Convention. Today, that commitment to accuracy is shared by over 100 countries. At NSM, we are proud to celebrate this day and extend our deepest gratitude to our metrology team for their dedication and expertise!
